Before you start
The file picker accepts: text/plain, */*. The contents and encoding of the file must also be supported; an extension alone does not guarantee compatibility.

What to expect
Compare the result with a reference made using the same algorithm and the same input. A changed byte or line ending changes the digest. A matching checksum does not, by itself, establish who created a file.
MD5 is useful for compatibility checks, but is not suitable for proving authenticity or protecting passwords.

Limits to keep in mind
MD5 is collision-prone and must not protect passwords or signatures.
