How it works

01

Choose your file

Pick a supported file from your device or drop it into the tool.

02

Set the result

Choose the output, quality, or size options that matter for this job.

03

Convert and download

Your browser processes the file locally and prepares a fresh download.

01

Before you start

The file picker accepts: .7z, .bz2, .gz, .rar, .tar, .tar.bz2, .tar.gz, .zip, application/octet-stream. The contents and encoding of the file must also be supported; an extension alone does not guarantee compatibility.

The download uses the .tar.bz2 extension. Keep the source until you have checked the result.

02

What to expect

Use this tool to prepare an archive in the selected format. Compressing already compressed media may save little space. Check that your recipient has software that can open the resulting archive.

TAR.BZ2 combines a TAR archive with bzip2 compression. Compression can be slow on less powerful devices.

03

Limits to keep in mind

Archives are assembled in browser memory; very large jobs may exceed device limits.

Bzip2 compression can be slow on phones and TVs.

Frequently asked questions

Is the file uploaded?+

File contents are processed on your device. The browser downloads the tools it needs, but does not upload your file to LocalConvert for conversion.

What if processing does not finish?+

Read the error shown by the tool. An unsupported format needs a different input; running out of memory may require a smaller file or a more capable device. Keep the tab open while the job runs.
